Background
‘The Venice Biennale is the oldest most prestigious international Art (and Architecture) Exhibitions in the world. Over 60 countries participate at this prestigious platform as part of promoting and creating international exposure and market access for their artists (and architects). In line with the Department of Arts and Cultures strategic outputs is to develop and promote the cultural and creative industries and to stimulate supply and demand. South Africa has been participating at the Venice Biennale since 2011 after a long absence in the international platform.’ DAC
In 2011 South Africa secured a venue at the Biennale for a period of 20 years. The venue is to be utilised for both the Art and Architecture Biennale’s every alternate year.
